You can format and enhance your novel text using pixiv’s built-in special tags.
This system is called pixiv Novel formatting.
The following features are currently available:
- Add chapter titles
- Add pages
- Add images
- Add links
- Add ruby characters
- Apply bold text
- Apply italics
- Add emphasis marks
You can also use the formatting conversion feature to automatically apply ruby characters or emphasis marks to certain text via pixiv Novel formatting.
This feature is available on the desktop and mobile versions only.

On both mobile and desktop, you can insert special tags from the Tool menu at the top of the novel posting page.

■ Structure your text
Tap or click to choose "Add chapter title" or "Add a page".

[chapter:Chapter Title]
Displays the text as a large, bold heading. Chapter titles are also shown as a table of contents on the left side when reading, making it easier to navigate between sections. - Add pages

Text after this tag will start on a new page.

■ Add images
You can insert images directly into your novel. Tap or click to choose "Upload illustrations" or "Add an illustration by work ID".
"Upload illustrations" lets you upload an image directly into your novel. To learn more, see "What is the Upload Illustrations feature?"
"Add an illustration by work ID" lets you insert an illustration or manga from pixiv by entering its ID.

You can upload images from the Tool menu in the editor. You can use up to 30 uploaded images per novel.

[pixivimage:Illustration ID]
Insert pixiv illustrations or manga by specifying the work ID. If you use another creator’s work, it will only appear after they approve its use. You can use up to 300 illustration tags per novel.
To insert a specific page from a multi-page work, use:
[pixivimage:Illustration-▲]
Replace ▲ with the number of the page you want to use.
■ Add links
Tap or click to choose "Link a page within the novel" or "Add a URL link".
"Link a page within the novel" lets you jump to a specific page within the same novel. "Add a URL link" lets you link to another work or an external website.

This lets readers jump to a specific page. Useful for creating tables of contents or branching story paths. - Add a URL link

This lets you link to another pixiv work or an external webpage.
■ Add ruby characters
Select the text, then tap or click to add ruby characters.
[[rb:pixiv > ピクシブ]]
Adds the reading "ピクシブ" to "pixiv".
*Ruby (also known as furigana) are smaller characters placed above or beside Japanese kanji to show their pronunciation.
You can also convert certain ruby formats into this tag automatically.

■ Apply bold text
Select the text, then tap or click to make it bold.
[b:pixiv]
Displays "pixiv" in bold.
■ Apply italics
Select the text, then tap or click to italicize it.
[i:pixiv]
Displays "pixiv" in italics.
■ Add emphasis marks
Select the text, then tap or click to add emphasis marks.
[[emphasismark:Text > ﹅]]
Adds emphasis marks "﹅" to the word "Text".
You can replace ﹅ with another single character, such as ・ or ○.
*Emphasis marks are widely used in Japanese writing, but might be confused with diacritics when combined with the alphabet. While this feature is available across all writing systems, use the preview to ensure your readers can enjoy your post without confusion.
*In horizontal text, emphasis marks appear above the characters (or below for simplified Chinese). In vertical text, they appear to the right of the characters.
You can also convert certain emphasis mark formats into this tag automatically.
